I'm guessing that when the jailbreak occurs, fstab moves from /private/etc/ to /etc? --rdqronos 13:01, 12 September 2011 (MDT)

No. Apple made /etc a symlink to /private/etc for whatever reason… That's just how iOS and Mac OS X are. There isn't any reason for jailbreaks to move /private/etc to /etc. --Dialexio 16:13, 12 September 2011 (MDT)
