What do you mean with "IP over iTunes"? -wEsTbAeR--

If you connect a WM device to your PC and you have ActiveSync, then it establishes a p2p-connection and ActiveSync routes traffic. So you have internet access, without the need of any radio. -caique2001-

possible?

is this possible? to me it sounds like a unique type of tetheringspecific to the WM device...have you looked into whether this can be done or not?

Re: possible

Important is the fact it is cable based, no radio connection is involved.

It should be possible by using the uxbmux architecture. On the iphone a socket daemon / driver is needed, on the PC / Mac side a specific driver that can talk to the usbmux driver. After connection over unix sockets both sides have to provide an ethernet interface. With correct routing settings on iPhone, then internet access (from iPhone via PC) should be possible, if there is any NAT on the gateway side. Full tethering from the PC side to gain internet access via the iPhone's radio won't be possible until there is any NAT implementation on iPhone. ipfw does not work as there is no kernel extension. Forwarding works, but makes no sense without NAT.

scotty2

scotty2 is the kernel master, but he seems to have disappeared from IRC :(

if you can somehow find him, let me know...maybe he can help with the .kext...or at least develop a patch to get .kexts working :)
