rewrite needed

first, I will say that this is better than nothing. but really I think we can do better than a copyopasta from the iPhone-elite wiki. we have 2.0 lockdownd patches already, let alone 1.1.4, so why not post them all and in detail like the iPhone-elite wiki ever so awesomely did. that is what this wiki is all about. also, some information on the activation shrt circuiting method would be nice to have. I would post it but I know that someone with better ARM experience would do a better job at it, especially wizdaz since afaik he was the onethat found it in the 1.2 days.

just my 2 cents, take it as you will

perhaps move the patches to the lockdownd page. and I don't like the rapidshare links

Disabling

iTunes checks your IMEI, ICCID, and Serial Number with Apple's database. If they match, you receive an Activation token, getting you passed the emergency call screen and allowing use of the iPhone.

Looks like this paragraph applies only to the 3G and 3GS. On my 2G iPhone (factory locked to AT&T), if I try to activate with the original SIM card, iTunes starts a wizard where I'm asked my personal details etc. in order to create new account with AT&T. Does anyone know what is different there? Blackbox 21:54, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

yeah, you used to be able to activate it yourslef at home, but now they treat it like other phones and do it in store ChronicDev 00:04, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Well actually I ordered my 3GS online with Bouygues Telecom (French carrier), and had to connect my iPhone (with their SIM) to iTunes, and it activated (actually it was saying waiting for activation), I went on Bouygues Telecom website to activate my n°, then I restated my phone and got "iPhone activated" and service. So activation is in store or not quite in store in that case? Dranfi 06:40, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't think I had to activate my iPod Touch 1G.

Can someone explain what this is for? Ok, Apple can disallow activation. But for what reason should they do that? --http 09:29, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
