This is a jailbreak that was created by MuscleNerd to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 untethered on newer devices. This is a so-called backup solution, because comex had more problems or for other reasons didn't finish his untethered solution on time.

Technical Details

Probably parts of the firmware get replaced with parts of the iOS4.2b3. Someone with more knowledge on this subject please describe this in more detail.

Requirements

  1. A developer account (Paid US$99 Version)
  2. An Template:Wp copy of iOS 4.2b3 (not recomended)

Status

Monte has been released as a beta program to a bigger audience. Each release fixed some problems. (see redsn0w). The current version still has the following issues:

  • No Windows version
  • Porting Monte back to 4.1
  • Data-restore with iTunes erases the jailbreak
  •  ? (DRM iBooks etc.?)
