There are two variants.
Hardware differences between the two are almost non-existant (i.e. they're almost identical). The name used in firmware is iPod5,1.
Application Processor
The iPod touch 5G makes use of the Apple A5 SoC.
Bluetooth/Wi-Fi
The iPod touch 5G makes use of the BCM4334 for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi communication.

The iPod touch 5G's cameras, both front and rear camera are capable with Low Light Boost feature introduced in the iPhone 5 by Apple. But the feature is disabled by default. You can enable it by jailbreaking your iPod touch and installing the Cydia tweak called LLBiPT5, developed by PoomSmart
