So it terms of connecting to iPhone via serial using the lighting connector is there publicly available breakout boards or iPhone to serial cables even?

Lightning Connector is better than Lightning IMHO. Anyways, there is a pinout. But it's a weak one as the pins are dynamic. --5urd 17:01, 7 November 2012 (MST)

So it terms of connecting to iPhone via serial using the lighting connector is there publicly available breakout boards or iPhone to serial cables even?
