AFC is a service (runs by afcd) running on every iPhone / iPod, which iTunes uses to send files to the device. It is locked in the /var/mobile/media jail.

AFC2

AFC2 is a patched version of the AFC service, which allows access to the whole filesystem. Thus, installing it means jailbreak.
